Then Representative Geraldine A. Ferraro (D-New
York) was the first, and until John McCain chose
Sarah Palin for the Republicans in 2008, the only
woman nominated to the national ticket of either
major U.S. party.

Ronald Reagan and George Bush won the election
in 1984. Barack Obama and Joe Biden won in 2008.
