Bobby Ray Inman, who now holds the Lyndon B. Johnson Centennial Chair in National Policy at the University of Texas, made a career in the Navy and Intelligence, becoming first Director of the National Security Agency (under President Carter) and then Deputy Director of the CIA (under President Reagan); nominated, but resigned before a vote in the Senate, to be Secretary of Defense (under President Clinton).
