"THE MAESTRO'S MOJO"
ARTHUR FIEDLER
CONDUCTING
in Rehearsal
The New York Times has two pieces on "Demystifying Conducting" today, with Alan Gilbert, music director of the New York Philharmonic, illustrating "the connection between gesture and music." The article is here; the multimedia presentation is here.
Above is Maestro Arthur Fiedler in action, conducting a rehearsal of the Boston Pops (more Fiedler here and here). Kurt Masur, a former music director of the New York Philharmonic, can be seen here with the London Philharmonic in Carnegie Hall. And Leonard Bernstein, another former music director of the New York Philharmonic, seems almost to be wielding a cigarette as a baton as he conducts a press conference at the National Press Club, here.
