The "Stafford" in all the recent debate about student loans, although some of his successors doubt he would be happy with the current proposals (see here):  Robert Stafford served in the U.S. Navy, including in World War II and the Korean War, and in state government, rising to Governor of Vermont, 1959-1961; served in the U.S. House of Representatives, 1961-1971, and in the U.S. Senate from 1971-1989 (some details here).
