Tom Barlow was a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from the First District of Kentucky for one term, from 1993-95. 

In 2002 he came that close to winning the Democratic nomination to take on Senator Mitch McConnell (forty-nine point nine percent). The Democrat who did win, Lois Combs Weinberg, lost to McConnell.
